The Leadership in Instructional Technology provided an impactful and positive primer in the role that an instructional technology coach and instructional technology in general should play in the leadership and operation of a school. Through the course, I gained valuable insight into the ideal standing of a technology vision and technology plan for a school. I also was afforded an opportunity to examine the technology integration planning for my own school and view it through this lens of what could be in an ideal situation.
Through the course of the class, I prepared interview questions for my principal and other key teachers, I wrote a survey for the staff at the school, I actually conducted the interview with the principal. Using the information from that interview, I prepared an ideal technology vision for my school based on a combination of my principal’s beliefs and my own. I then prepared an analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats present in the school in relation to that vision. Finally, I completed an application for a technology grant and prepared a plan t act and evaluate the success of building to that vision of technology use and integration.
The learning and experiences in this course have prepared me to be a more productive member of my school environment and culture. The skills communicated in this course also prepared me to serve as a technology teacher, eventually a technology coach, and perhaps an administrator in the future.
