In terms of immediate impact on my effectiveness in the classroom and around my school, I think that 21st century teaching and learning may have been the most useful class that I have taken in the EdS program. The focus on the indicators of engaged learning and the levels of technology integration put specific words to my own feelings about student engagement and allowed me to deepen my understanding of technology integration. In addition, the activities and practice that we completed in the class allowed a better understanding of the role of a technology coach and the intricacies of coaching our peers.
Throughout the course we practiced identifying indicators of engaged learning in model lessons and assigning levels of technology integration to those lessons. Although the lessons that we viewed were selected for their engaged learning and technology integration and were view via video clips of the lesson, the practice allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the engaged learning indicators that I can build into my own lessons. While levels of technology integration were topics of other classes during the instructional technology program, I feel that I obtained a better understanding of the details of technology integration and the nuances and intricacies that create a lesson with a higher level of technology integration.
Perhaps the most impactful aspect of the class was that after seeing the lessons with high levels of engagement from the videos that we practiced on and from my peers, I am more motivated than ever to share my learning with my peers at my own school. I plan to create professional learning sessions and resources concerning the indicators of engaged learning and the levels of technology integration. I also plan to pull together videos of engaging lessons with high levels of technology integration to show to my colleagues. Along with those video lessons, I plan to highlight the aspects of the classes that create engaged learning and high LoTi levels to allow my peers to easily include those aspects into their own classes. Through these actions, I believe that I will be able to make a positive change for the teacher and students at my school.
